Instructional Services for Faculty

Queens College faculty are invited to request library instruction for their classes. Our librarians will work with you to plan and deliver a workshop that is relevant to your course and student research assignments. We offer instruction in the library, in your classroom, on Zoom, or with asynchronous materials.

Mission

We empower students to think critically about the information that they encounter and create, and to find personal fulfillment in their research journeys. Through collaborations with faculty members, administrators, and the community, we provide student-centered workshops and teaching materials tailored to individual courses and programs.

Types of Instruction

General Library Instruction

An introduction to library research and information literacy for new students.

Subject-Specific Research

Learn the key resources and research methods in a specific discipline to complete creative and scholarly projects. Led by our Subject Librarians.

Data Analysis

Learn how to analyze and visualize data with popular data analytics tools. Led by our Data Services Librarian.

Digital Scholarship

Learn how to incorporate digital tools in the creation, curation, and publication of scholarly products. Led by our Digital Scholarship Librarian.

Special Collections & Archives

Learn primary-source research methodologies and strategies with the library’s unique, historical collections. Led by our Special Collections & Archives Staff.

Tips for Successful Library Instruction

Schedule the session about 2 to 3 weeks before your research assignment is due.


Ensure that students are familiar with their assignments before the session.


Attend the session with your students in order to provide important disciplinary context and to support their learning.

STATA

Data manipulation, visualization, statistics, and automated reporting.


Tableau

Data visualization through drag and drop actions and other features


Wolfram Mathematica

Perform symbolic and numerical calculations, create interactive visualizations, and develop complex algorithms.


Adobe Creative Cloud

Includes popular titles such as Photoshop, Premiere, InDesign, Illustrator, After Effects, etc.


Maxon

Animation, motion design, and VFX.


Python

General purpose and popular programming language.


R

Programming language for data analysis and visualization.


Microsoft Office

Titles such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint. etc.
